The Missouri Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (MACTE) recognized recent Truman graduates Stacie Sagaser Moon and Joe Rogers as two of the state’s Outstanding Beginning Teachers. At the April 25th spring conference of MACTE, a total of 64 outstanding teachers were recognized for their excellence in serving children during their first two years of service in school districts across Missouri. Present at the awards ceremony was Dr. Tim Wall, MACTE President along with several other members of the MACTE board; Dr. Gale (Hap) Hairston, Director of Educator Preparation at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and Mr. Stephan Schwartz, one of the top six finalists in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program and first grade teacher in the Valley Park School District. Each recipient was awarded an engraved plaque to display in their classroom. 
Very soon the Education Department will be losing to retirement three very esteemed colleagues: Drs. Jan Grow, Scott Olsen and Robert Martin. In recognition of their service to Truman State University and commitment to preparing some of Missouri’s best teachers, the department will be holding a retirement reception on Monday, April 15th, from 12-1:30pm in the upstairs atrium of Violette Hall. You are cordially invited to share in our celebration as we honor our retirees. No RSVP required.

The teacher recruitment season is in full force! MOJOE, an annual teacher job fair in Columbia, is an excellent opportunity for those who are seeking employment in the education field to meet with several school district representatives in one day.
This event is coordinated by the colleges and universities in the Mid-Missouri area and held on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia, Missouri. This year we expect approximately 100 school districts to attend, representing Missouri and beyond. Admission is free and open to all candidates – no preregistration is required. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

Kansas City Public Schools will be hosting a job fair for individuals that are interested in teaching and certificated positions for the 2013-2014 school year. Lafayette Preparatory Academy, a charter school, will open in the fall of 2013 initially as a K-1 charter school with 94 students and grow with its students through 5th grade. In addition to daily grade-level planning time and weekly professional development, teachers will receive regular advice, support, guidance, and feedback from a supportive leader. The Reading Specialist program at Truman State University will provide a foundation in education as it relates to literacy acquisition and concentrated preparation in assessment and intervention in reading and will provide clinical experiences in working with children and adolescents.
