The MAE - Master of Arts in Education degree, with a specialty in Visual Arts Education, is a rigorous, innovative program. Its thrust is visionary and oriented toward the future growth and development of students and the entire field of education. At Truman, students first complete a BA - bachelor of arts degree - before admission into the MAE. The BA is traditionally completed in four years, and the MAE program in one additional academic year, plus either one or two summers.

The MAE program in Visual Arts Education specifically aims at developing highly competent, dedicated teachers, committed to the profession and to enriching young people by bringing an understanding of art into their lives. Truman State University views the place of art in today and tomorrow's school curricula as being both unique, and vitally important as a basic enrichment of the total range of academic studies.
