PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CLASSES

GENERAL INFORMATION

ADMISSION INFORMATION

ALL STUDENTS:  It is the applicant’s responsibility to determine his or her eligibility for Truman’s Professional Development classes in accordance with admissions policies outlined in the current bulletin of the University.  Students on academic suspension from a college or University are not eligible for enrollment.    Acceptance into Professional Development classes does not constitute acceptance into degree programs.

NON-DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS: Truman’s Professional Development offers a wide range of courses providing the non-degree seeking student the opportunity for the broadening of knowledge and the refinement of skills.  Students pursuing (or planning to pursue) graduate degrees from other Universities are advised to verify prior to their enrollment whether they will be able to apply credit earned through Truman toward their degrees.

AUDIT: A student may audit a class for no grade and no credit upon the approval of the instructor and upon payment of the audit fee.  Regular fees and enrollment procedures are required.  However, the student will not be permitted to take the final examination and the transcript entry will indicate no hours of credit earned.  The student’s transcript will reflect that audit does not indicate any particular level of performance or attendance.  Audit enrollments do not fulfill requirements for load considerations by the Veterans Administration.  Students who enroll in a course initially for credit may be permitted to change their enrollment to audit within three class sessions.  During the term that a course is being audited the audit cannot be changed to graduate or undergraduate credit.  At a later semester a student may enroll in the same course for graduate or undergraduate credit.

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

REGULAR REGISTRATION: Students attend the first scheduled meeting to fill out the registration form and pay tuition fees.

LATE REGISTRATION: Enrollments will not be accepted beyond the second class meeting.

FEES

TUTION FEES: Effective with the 2007 Fall Semester through the 2008 August Interim, tuition is $840.00 per 3.0-semester-hour class.  Beginning with the Fall 2008 Semester through the 2009 August Interim, tuition will be $873.00 per 3.0-semester-hour class.  Payment in full for tuition is due upon enrollment.  Truman does not have a tuition installment plan for Professional Development students.   Tuition checks should be made payable to “Truman” or payment may be made by MasterCard, Visa, or Discover on the forms provided.  A number of students receive support from various sources.  In these cases, students are to pay their fees at the time of registration and then seek reimbursement from their sponsor, except when payment comes directly from the sponsor to the University.  If an official letter is needed to receive reimbursement, please contact the Truman Registrar Office at 660-785-4143.

PASSING OF INSUFFICIENT FUNDS CHECKS: A penalty of $10.00 will be charged for the passing of non-negotiable checks at the University, including any returned marked “insufficient funds.”  The failure to take care of the check within 72 hours after being notified or further violations will be grounds for suspension from Truman.

RETURN OF FEES: Students who withdraw before the organizational meeting from classes for which they have pre-enrolled will receive a 100% refund of pre-paid fees.  During a regular 15-week course, students who withdraw before the fifth class meeting receive a 70% refund of fees paid.  Students who withdraw after the fifth class meeting receive no refund.

ATTENDANCE

Regular class attendance is necessary in order for a student to achieve the desired level of academic achievement.  Irregular attendance normally results in lower standards of achievement.  If classes are missed, a student is responsible for making up work to the satisfaction of the instructor concerned.  It is University policy that each instructor determines the attendance requirements for his/her class.  These requirements will normally be indicated to the students during the first class meeting.

GRADES

Truman Professional Development classes do not follow the regular on-campus calendar.  Grades are no longer mailed.  Grades for Professional Development classes are available within two working days of being received on campus from the instructor.  Final grades are available via TruView, Truman’s web-based student information    system.  Log-in  instructions are available at http://registrar.truman.edu/TruView/instructions.asp  Truman uses a system-generated ID number to identify student records., which can be obtained from the instructor after rosters are distributed.  Technical assistance is available by contacting the Truman Information Technology Services Help Desk at (660) 785-4544

TRANSCRIPTS

An academic record (transcript) is permanently maintained for each student.  Currently enrolled students may access their unofficial transcripts using TruView.  This service is not available for former students.  Official transcripts are photocopies of the original, bearing an embossed seal of the University.  Official transcripts are not furnished to a student personally, but are sent to the school or firm directly at the student’s request.  Transcripts can be issued only with the student’s written consent;  requests cannot be made by e-mail or by phone.  A request form is available from the Truman Registrar website, http://registrar.truman.edu/transcripts/Transcript_Request.pdf.  After providing all requested information, the request should be printed, signed, and mailed or FAXED to: Truman Registrar’s Office, McClain Hall 104, 100 East Normal Street, Kirksville, MO 63501-4221.  Transcript requests are processed in the order received and processing time is approximately three working days (or longer at the end of a semester).  Transcripts cost $5.00 each.  Transcripts can be FAXED for an additional $3.00 charge, or sent overnight mail for an additional $10.00 charge.
