Truman State University will offer gifted certification in the Saint Louis, Missouri area, at the Clayton School District beginning fall 2009.
Prerequisites:
- A Missouri teaching certificate
- 2 years teaching experience
To obtain gifted certification through the State of Missouri,
you will need
A. 15 hours of coursework
* three of the four offered courses
(9 hours of gifted specific coursework)
* a graduate level research course
(3 hours)
* completion of Psychology of the Exceptional Child
(or its equivalent as approved by the State - 3 hours)
B. One practicum experience
* 145 contact hours with gifted students in a reflective setting where you observe, work with, and reflect upon, gifted students
These are the titles of the four content courses in the series:
ED 550G Introduction to Gifted (fall)
ED 652G Affective Needs of Gifted (fall)
ED 651G Curriculum for Gifted (spring)
ED 650G Identification of Gifted (spring)
You must register for both semester classes at the beginning of that semester to avoid late registration fees.
Each course costs approximately $875
